Bogota  Popayan & Ipiales  Otavalo  Quito  Banos  Cuenca  Chiclayo  Trujillo  Huancayo  Huancavelica  Nazca  Cuzco  Machu Picchu

We arrived in Trujillo at night, after a full day on a bus. The views during this journey were amazing, with landscapes changing from beach-sides to deserts! We found a nice hotel in the historic center of the city and rushed to a jugeria (juice place) where we bought a liter of cold fresh pineapple juice!
We spent the following morning doing a bit of shopping in town as Quentin desperately needed some new walking shoes!
In the afternoon we explored 2 archeological sites: Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna which were built by the Moche civilization.
The following morning, we explored one of the most famous sites in Peru: Chan Chan: a huge pyramidal complex with layers of temples built on top of each other by successive Chimu generations. We also spent a lot of time in the Chan Chan museum where we learnt a lot of information about these civilizations, the way they lived, ate, hunted et...
Things were definitely getting better as what we could admire was much more than mud hills! Perfectly preserved walls, corridors and paintings were visible and we took a real pleasure in getting lost amidst them...

On our way back to Trujillo, we stopped in Huanchaco for a bit to sit on the beach and relax from our busy and cultural day. And this is where we discovered these chicken legs being grilled on a street stall and appearing to very popular with the locals... We did not dare trying it though and opted for a less scary option: empanadas...
We arrived back in Trujillo in the evening, had the best chicken sandwich in the world with another liter of fresh pineapple juice and waited on the Plaza de Armas, watching the night fall on the city and the world go by for a while...
Our bus to our next destination was not due until several hours so we had a lot of time to kill. While waiting on the Plaza, we met a guy called Jose, supposedly an English teacher (with quite a bad English for a teacher) and we talked with him for a few hours... about Europe, about Peru, about our different cultures... It really helped us kill time and as we were talking more and more a small comity started to create around us with curious locals just standing there and willing to hear our conversation. This was one of our REAL moment... chatting with locals about everything, learning to know them, simply...
Before we knew it we were on a bus to Lima, our next stop.
