Playa Aserradores  Las Penitas  Leon & Granada  Ometepe  San Juan del Sur  Playa del Coco  Bahamas

Aboard a crowded bus (we didn’t think you could fit that many people into such a confined space, but they definitely can!), we arrived in Gasaule where we crossed the border between Honduras and Nicaragua and jumped onto another chicken bus heading to Chinandega and another one towards Playa Aserradores, our next destination. On the bus Quentin made friends with a little boy called Carlos and who insisted he wanted to have his sunglasses! No way Carlos! The road was dusty and into the unknown (as usual) and we were dropped off in the middle of a poor and little village… We asked where the nearest hotel was and were escorted by a few kids to the marina. A very posh hotel was there and after being told it would cost about $200 a night we literally ran away! Well as fast as you can run under the heat with heavy bags on your back… Two kilometers further, we found another place to stay, at the end of a sand road, just in front of a beautiful beach…
The prices were a little more reasonable there and we opted for a couple of beds in a dorm. The dark sand beach was fantastically wild and deserted… We walked there for a while until the night fell and had lunch at about five in the evening!...
An early and long night was then highly needed… We spent the following day relaxing on the beach, watching the waves and then the stars…
We didn’t really feel like we fitted in there (maybe it was our low budget, the vibe or the people around) so we left the following morning and headed back towards Chinandega. There we took a bus to Chichigalpa where the famous local rum Flor de Caña is produced. We turned up in front of the distillery, hoping we could visit it but were unfortunately told we needed an authorization to get in… Never mind…
We jumped onto another bus to Leon and then another one to Las Peñitas, our next stop…
