This is one of many examples of a plan not
going totally as expected... We had read about this fantastic train journey
from Riobamba to Sibambe and got quite excited
by the idea of riding the train on its roof
through the Andes... So we arrived in Riobamba
just on time to buy our train ticket, only
to find out that the train didn't leave
from there anymore but from Alausi... So
we were sold a bus ticket to Alausi for the
following morning instead... The bus was
obviouslt full of tourist, which is something
we always try to avoid... Anyway when we
arrived at the Alausi train station we found
out that passengers were not allowed on the
train roof anymore so we simply abandonned
the idea of the train! Instead we took a bus to Cuenca and admired
the scenic views of the Cordillera!
We arrived in Cuenca in the afternoon and,
totally by chance, met a woman who had a
little hostel on the edge of the new part
of town and the old part with great views,
just by the Rio Tomebamba! We had a late
lunch and explored some of the city for the
rest of the day... The following day, we
saw our first lama and had our first taste
of archeological ruins for a while as we
visited the Museo del Banco Central 'Pumapungo'
as well as the Museo de Artes Populares...
Quentin also spent quite a bit of time on
the internet to give YOU some news... :) More archeology was ahead of us the following
day as we headed towards the Peruvian border...
